Haitian Art Showing and Sale To Benefit Mission Manna
September 29th, 2010Meet the Mission Manna Goats!
September 28th, 2010Mission Manna is very pleased to announce that our Sustainable Nutrition Project is up and running in Fond Baptiste. We have distributed the initial goat herd to the families determined to have the most need and Eddy and Franckel report that some were moved to tears when they received their doe. Haitians have been promised much but often don’t see the result of those commitments so Mission Manna is very pleased to see this project off to a good start.
Franckel has been to Gressier in the weeks since to receive more training and to take possession of our buck. Once the does have reached a mature age, the breeding and further distribution program will commence. At this point, the project will expand rapidly.
Greg and Todd will travel to Haiti in October to meet the families in Fond Baptiste and to deliver veterinary and other useful supplies. They’ll also go to Gressier with Franckel for training and will be assisting with the medical mission trip that same week.
Stay tuned, lots of interesting and fruitful things happening with Mission Manna.

Sustainable Nutrition Project Training

Mission Manna’s New Tools of the Trade
September 2nd, 2010In support of our Sustainable Nutrition Project, we received quite a few supplies this week. And quite a variety.
These will travel to Haiti with us in October to be provided to Franckel (our Animal Health Agent in Fond Baptiste) for use by and distribution to the 16 families in our program. By that time, Franckel will also have allocated one doe goat to each family and will have a doe and our buck in his possession. He will also have trained all of the families in the necessities of keeping the goats healthy, happy and productive.
We have high hopes for this program.

Teams of volunteer health care providers who have established programs in Haiti, report on their work there, the situation in Haiti both before and after the earthquake earlier this year, and review the challenges facing Haitians and prospects for the country.
Mission Manna provides medical care for malnourished children and continuing health care education for adults in and around the Haitian town of Montrouis, while nurturing relationships through respect and creation of understanding between our two cultures.
Dr. Tim Plaut, a physician at MAHEC and an organizer in Mission Manna’s program in Haiti, heads a panel of other WNC health care and medical professionals who have been to the country and will talk about the issues and complexities they have encountered in working there.
This program is free to subscribing members of the World Affairs Council of Western North Carolina, joint NCCCR – WAC-WNC members, and full time UNCA students. Admission is $8.00 for all others.
