Mission Manna’s distribution of breeding pairs of rabbits into the Montrouis community continues to be a great success.

Garry Maurice is the point man for this project and in addition to the distribution, he provides the materials and expertise to build a durable hutch for the rabbits. Garry also educates recipients in raising the rabbits and advises on best practices for consumption and sale in the market.

In this way, Mission Manna is providing a sustainable resource for malnourished families in Montrouis.

It is so cool to see these results! I remember our meeting with Garry about this in October of 2010 and thinking it made a lot of sense. I was skeptical, but hopeful.

The conversation went something like this…

“But Garry, do Haitians even eat rabbit meat?”

“No, but they will after I cook ‘em some! It’s my favorite kind of meat. He better than chicken.”

I see pictures of the Mission Manna yurt, so I assume the MM property is still the main “rabbit farm”.

Thanks for the pics and the update!

I remember that conversation as well. Garry had the sparkle in his eye that said, “I can do this!”

He has now undertaken considerable redevelopment of the property. We’re going to put in an irrigation system this winter. Lots of things growing there, including rabbits.
